CHANDIGARH: As the southwest monsoons have covered several parts of the country, rainfall in June in most of the states and Union Territories of the northwest India subdivision was either deficient (more than 20%-59% below the normal) or largely deficient (over 60% below the normal) of the long-period average (LPA), though the cumulative precipitation during the month in the region was normal.

Rainfall up to 19% below the long-period average (LPA) is considered normal.
According to the data from the India Meteorological Department (IMD), June rainfall in the northwest India was recorded at 68.6 millimetres, which is 12% below the normal of 78.1 mm. However, out of the six states in northwest India, only Rajasthan had normal rainfall while Jammu and Kashmir had 53% rainfall (excess) above the normal among the four UTs.

According to the IMD data, Delhi recorded the highest deficit at -70% (20.5 mm) of the normal rainfall of 66.5 mm, while in Chandigarh it was -61% (60.9 mm) of the normal precipitation of 155.5 mm.
Punjab recorded 39.5 mm rainfall during June, which is 28% below the normal of 54.5 mm. Haryana received 36 mm (-34%) of rainfall against the normal of 54.7 mm.
Out of the 23 districts of Punjab, rainfall was deficient in nine districts and largely deficient in four districts.
In Haryana, 13 districts had deficient rainfall and three districts had largely deficient rainfall.
Out of the 12 districts in the hill state of Himachal Pradesh, deficient rainfall was recorded in six districts and largely deficient in two districts.
